Fugazzi Grand III : My Top 500 Albums (#308 and #307)

(#308, Nerf Herder by Nerf Herder)

I have an uncanny ability to recall where and approximately when I bought all of my records, but for the life of me, I have no idea where or what compelled me to buy this.  I do remember listening to this a lot in 1997 (because my fiancĂ© hated it), and it came out in late 1996, so maybe I was intrigued by the album art, because I had not heard of them at the time.  I haven't listened to this album in over ten years, so I'll have to give it a spin tonight.  I'm sure I'll still know every word to "Golfshirt".

Wanna hear it ?

(#307, Isolation Drills by Guided By Voices)

The album that started it all for me with GBV.  Thank you to Tiffany Herrera for letting me borrow your copy, and being persistent with me, as I tried to figure Pollard and this band out.  Tiffany can tell you first hand that I did not like this album at first.  I thought it sounded fine, I just didn't get it.  The same goes for the same time I heard Alien Lanes.  Hated it the first time I listened to it.  You'll find out in December how much my opinion changed on Alien Lanes.

As for Isolation Drills, it took a few more listens for me to warm up to it.  As it turns out, this was their most polished record released to date, as Pollard and company went from their signature lo-fi sound to a slicker production value this time around.  Some of my favorites from this record are "Chasing Heather Crazy", "Twilight Campfighter", "Glad Girls" and "How's My Drinking".  This album also features one of the worst Pollard songs of all time, "Frostman".

Let's take a listen to "Glad Girls" and "Frostman" ...
