(#197, Out of Time by R.E.M.)
This is the album that turned R.E.M. from a cult favorite into giant rock stars. Songs like "Losing My Religion" and "Shiny Happy People" may have turned the purists away, as Michael Stipe was doing something he had never done on an R.E.M. record before ... annunciating. It's funny, I've crucified albums before for sounding like the songs didn't fit together, and this album does sound like someone hit shuffle, but I'm still drawn to it, and still love it.
Take a listen to "Shiny Happy People" and "Belong" ...
