980. "Who Can It Be Now?" (Men At Work, Business As Usual, 1983)
One of those staples from the 80's...there were a few songs that I wrestled with, should they make this list, should they not, and in the end, this one was left in.
979. "Wipe Out" (The Surfaris, Wipe Out, 1963)
There is a song you will see much, much later that was inspired by the drum solo in this tune. Great fun.
978. "Wrong About Bobby" (Eels, Shootenanny! , 2003)
Eels has become a favorite over the last five years. May see them on my birthday.
977. "Drinker's Peace" (Guided By Voices, Same Place the Fly Got Smashed, 1990)
"I get a contact buzz"
976. "Lost Wisdom" (Mount Eerie, Lost Wisdom, 2008)
I've been coming back to this album a lot lately. Opening track.
975. "King" (Weezer, The Red Album, 2008)
This is a "bonus" track that should have made the album. Bass player Scott Shriner on lead vocals.
974. "Losing My Mind" (The Black Crowes, Lions, 2001)
One of the last great Black Crowes songs.
973. "Duke of Earl" (Gene Chandler, The Girl Don't Care, 1962)
Simply a classic.
972. "Sleep Now In the Fire" (Rage Against the Machine, The Battle of Los Angeles, 1999)
Thank you to Mike Moser for introducing them to me.
971. "The Bridge" (Elton John, The Captain & The Kid, 2006)
I think about this song a lot.
970. "Via Chicago" (Wilco, Summerteeth, 1999)
I think this is my favorite Wilco album.
969. "Little Jimmy the Giant" (Guided By Voices, Suitcase, 2000)
A "throwaway" demo, I'm telling you, this guy is a genius songwriter.
968. "U N Me" (The Watson Twins, Talking To You Talking To Me, 2010)
An early favorite of the 2010 Paste sampler tunes.
967. "Vegetarian Restaurant" (Aberfeldy, Young Forever, 2004)
The power of the celebrity playlist. Discovered these guys reading Elijah Wood's playlist. He loves them, and now I do too.
966. "Taco Wagon" (Young Fresh Fellows, This One's For the Ladies, 1989)
A Todd Kemper referral. Fun record.
965. "Oh Yeah" (Yello, Stella, 1987)
"Day Bow Bow"
964. "We Didn't Start the Fire (Billy Joel, Storm Front, 1989)
Musically terrible, but so fun to sing.
963. "All Grown Up" (Elvis Costello, Mighty Like A Rose, 1991)
Great vocal...great song.
962. "You Make My Dreams" (Hall & Oates, The Very Best... , 80's)
Jake Fogelnest said it the best...."If you say you don't have Hall & Oates on your ipod, you're lying"
961. "Australia" (The Shins, Wincing the Night Away, 2007)
This is a great band, and James Mercer is a great singer.
Nice work including Mount Eerie on the list. Didn't see that coming.
